High School Senior Photos…Kathleen Hall Photography

Prom is coming up FAST and we thought about all the things that go into prom and thought we would do a little video for you!  Prom is great, but the whole preparation thing is very cool too!  You get to pick out a dress, figure out a hair style, plan on makeup and where you are going to get it done and a whole bunch of other things!

Julie is one of our spokesmodels and she volunteered to let us come along while she had a trial run with her hair and makeup at Salon Bella Flora and went dress shopping at Nikki’s Glitz and Glam Boutique.  Well, we went a little farther and had her pose for photographs in her three top choice gowns and three different hair styles!  You, yes YOU, are going to help her decide!  We will post on Facebook the three different hair styles and the three different dresses and you get to vote!  ( I have my favorite, but I’m not telling!) Take a look at the video below to see the whole process!

Now Julie’s top three choices were these three:  The first one was designed by La Femme in aquamarine blue with a beautifully beaded bodice and an open back.  This looked amazing on Julie and even though it is quite elegant, it gave a softer look to Julie. Kathleen Hall Photography

The second one is a white strapless design with a sweetheart neckline.  The bodice is adorned with gold lace and beads.  It has an open back with a beautiful flowing skirt, great to dance in! The designer on this one is Night Moves. Kathleen Hall Photography

And lastly, there is the beautiful gray (who knew gray could be so elegant!), formal with a sweetheart neckline and mermaid style with tulle at the bottom.  Just gorgeous!!It has gold sequins with gun metal and aura borealis stones mixed in.  This one give a whole new meaning to elegance! This is designed by Alyce, in their Black Label line.  All of these can be found at Nikki’s Glitz and Glam Boutique in Palm Harbor.  Kathleen Hall Photography

And then there is a hair style to decide on.  True, the gown somewhat dictates the hair style but Julie experimented with three, with the help of Flora, Tina and Katherine at Salon Bella Flora.

She has a choice of a very elegant and fashion forward bun, designed by Tina; a beautiful “messy” updo, styled by Flora, or long soft curls by Katherine   She looks great in all three, but which will she choose?!

I had a great time working with everyone last week!  Check on my Facebook page for the opportunity to place your vote and help Julie decide!

How do you feel…? Kathleen Hall Photography Palm Harbor Fl

I find that, as humans, we value photographs because of the way they make us feel. The stronger the feeling, the more we value the photograph.

Jesh de Rox

When I read this quote by Jesh, (yes, that is his name and correct spelling), I began to think about the photographs in my life and the photographs that I had created.  I found that the ones that stood out are the ones that brought back feelings and memories to my life.  Whether it was remembering a great event or wonderful friends or clients or  “friendclients” (new word, made it up, haha!),  they all touched a place in my heart.  Photos that made me feel good about myself and how I looked also made the list.  Photos that made me laugh or reminisce also came instantly to mind.   Even the ones that were memories of awful news stories, they made me feel. And I realized Jexh had summed it up in two sentences.

When I photograph, I love to create  photographs that will make you feel something.  I have included a few of my favorites below.

High School Senior…(Palm Harbor Senior Photographer)

beautiful high school senior photo One of my favorite images from yesterday with Cassidy.  She came in with her hair done up in a French braid and then let it down for all the rest of the outfits.  What a great surprise when she came out of the changing area and I saw this fabulous hair.  With her porcelain skin and this lace top, I knew this image would be spectacular.  I love to work with young women who are open to doing something different and unique.  The results speak for themselves.  I do hope you love this Cassidy, this is your sneak peek!

Dancing Kristina…

With all the model, fashion and glamour type of images I am doing, I tried out this new look out on a beautiful young girl this past week.  The trick is to use the right shutter speed and  aperture combination to get a crisp face and a flowing skirt.  The large image on the top is the one I love to have a “stand alone” image of.  The face is tranquil and lovely and then there is so much movement in the skirt and the scarf. It just tells volumes about the girl becoming a young women.  She seems so at peace and confident in who she is becoming.  I also love the series, it tells a story of fun and excitement at this session!  I have decided to make this storyboard a new product line available in a 10×20 to take advantage of several different images that my clients might like to have together.  Dancing girl

Stand up Straight…

Posture.  There is a lot to be said for good posture.  I see a lot of trends over the years with people’s posture.  For years it was one shoulder higher than the other, because that is the shoulder they held the phone on!  Now, when I tell clients to sit up straight, they usually all lean back just a little in their chairs, because that is how they are used to sitting at their computers!  So when I get them straight, they feel a little odd for a few seconds!  Posture can do very good things for the final portrait.  It lengthens the body and puts all the “parts” where they should be!  Good posture gives an impression of alertness and assertiveness in a client as well.  So, I am always saying sit up straight or tall and encouraging clients to look their best.  Ok, so now that is all said and done, there is the case for a slight easiness among clients to establish relationships.  Take a look at these two mother and daughter portraits.  Just a slight lean of the daughter in the second one creates the finishing touch on the portrait.  She relaxes into her mom and the closeness that you can feel in that one is much more real and less posed.  So, exceptions to every rule.  As a photographer, I feel it is my job to watch for these things and correct them ever so slightly to get the emotional content that you desire to have in a portrait.     I do so love my job and all the family relationships that I get to witness every week.
